The Board of Directors at the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation have finally executed a Presidential directive to fire Momodou Camara, the Staff Rep of the Corporation, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. In a letter dated November 15th 2018, Mr. Camara was informed that his services with the SSHFC has been terminated with immediate effect. The Board’s Acting Secretary Paul L.K. Correa said the decision to terminate Camara’s services was based on a directive from President Adama Barrow for Camara’s employment with the Corporation to be terminated.
“The Board of Directors is hereby regret to inform you that after the consideration of the Panel’s Report, His Excellency the President has directed through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs that your service be terminated under the provision of SR Section11, Subsection 0210 with immediate effect. You are therefore required to do the handing over as we process your benefits,” Paul L.K. Correa, acting Board Secretary said.
Momodou Camara’s job designation at the SSHFC prior to his firing was Senior Internal Control’s Manager. He also served as Staff Rep.
His firing came in the wake of staff’s sit-down strike at the SSHFC. Workers at the Social Security said they will not resume work unless Camara’s firing is rescinded. They also want MD Muhammed Manjang to be fired.
President Adama Barrow has in the past criticized his predecessor dictator Jammeh of meddling into the affairs of the Civil Services and parastatals. He accuses Jammeh of illegal firing government officials and interference in the operations of public sector.
One year into his presidency, Barrow has used his Executive powers to send Momodou Camara home. Camara will be paid his benefits, per the letter coming the SSHFC Board.
