An official of the main the opposition United Democratic Party Ebrima Dibba and his voter registration patrol team have came under mob attack today at the home of the exiled Gambian dictator Yahya Jammeh. Dibba was slapped and booed by a hostile mob. He quickly boarded their patrol car and left the village.
Speaking on a video, shortly after the Kanilai fracas, Dibba said he was hit with a stone by one of his mob attackers. He told his followers that he has accepted the incident in good faith, adding that nothing can stop him from exercising his constitutional rights.
“Presently I am at the Bwiam hospital. I got assaulted by the people of Kanilai. They denied us entry, beat us, assault but it is all part of life, you understand, we are doing this for our country and we will not relent, we will continue working for our country and make sure we salvage Gambia from this kind of situation. I will accept it with good faith. Maybe very soon you see the video from Kanilai, beating me very hard, a big stone landed to my hand with big pain. It is part of life. I accept it with good faith. May God reward for our good work,” Dibba remarked.
“ We will never relent. We will continue to do our work,” Dibba added.
He visited the Bwiam hospital, where he was attended by nurses. His claimed that he had sustained an injury on his right hand because of the stone that was thrown at him.
The UDP voter patrol team had to flee Kanilai. They were forced by the mob to leave the village, as they rained insults at them.
