The Gendamerie officer, who was assigned to investigate the Ousman Sonko alleged rape case has resigned.  Oumar Toure cited security threats facing him and his family, among others to justify his move to rescue himself from the high-profile case.In a statement issued yesterday, Captain Toure said he is being followed and monitored in the wake of the leakage of his investigative report on the alleged rape case.He also said his communications are being monitored.

“Since the leaked minutes of this investigation, I have been followed by individuals, whose real motivation, I do not know.  I was told that they were elements of the Senegalese National Intelligence,” he said.

Toure said he has reported his concerns to his superior, but no action was taken to provide him security. He intends to turn himself to his command on Monday for his fate to be decided. He said he is not afraid of going to jail.

He has denied being manipulated by anyone to rescue himself from the Sonko case. He added that he took his own decision to resign from Sonko’s case.

Mr. Toure notes that since he and his family haven’t gotten any protection from his command, he has decided to resign from the Sonko case investigation.Toure said he prefers to go to bed hungry than sleeping with a belly full at night while being scared for his safety. Hence, he has decided to call it a day with the Sonko case.
