Two Gambian Immigration Officers have tested positive for the COVID-19 Coronavirus, Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. The two officers have been identified as: Haddy Badjie and Binta Jabang. They were part of the security contingent, who recently returned from Qatar. They were sent to attend an OIC VIP security protection training.
The contingent was consist of 11 Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) personnel, 24 officers of The Gambia Immigration Department, and 9 officers from the police force. They were earlier quarantined, but the test results of Ms. Badjie and Ms. Jabang came out positive.
One of the positive Immigration Officers is married to a soldier called Bakary Jarju. Jarju has also been invited for testing. He was exposed to his infected wife.
The Coronavirus positive officers were among the five new Corona cases recently announced by the Health Ministry. The Gambia has so far recorded nine COVID-19 Coronavirus cases. Two patients have recovered and one has died.
Ms. Badjie and Ms. Jabang are currently receiving treatment.
Haddy Badjie is an Immigration Corporal Officer. She works at the GID office in Banjul.
