The work culture in Barrow’s government is bad. Workers nowadays would report to work late and by 3:00 PM GMT, they would closed for the day. Almost all Ministries and parastatals are involved in such appalling work culture.
The government is paying workers at month end; and yet there is no work punctuality and productivity. That’s absurd.
Good work culture helps to develop nations. Unfortunately, in The Gambia, there is no good work culture. Workers do not care about the work they have been paid to do.
Adama Barrow, as Head of State should ensure that the dying work culture is revamped. His Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service should also weigh in by ensuring that government hourly and monthly workers follow the rules of reporting and closing from work on time.
As we pen this piece, things don’t look good for our poor nation. There is no way, we can achieve Barrow’s much talked about National Development Plan (NDP) program in the absence of workers productivity.
The TRRC proceedings is also taking its toll on workers productivity at work. Some spent hours online watching the proceedings—forgetting that they had a job to perform.
The Barrow government lacks proper checks and balances. Some workers are not reporting to work and yet they are paid at month end. What a disservice?
The regime should ensure that workers found violating work procedures are disciplined as required by their employment rules and regulations. Follow the rules.
