The head of the APRC rebellious breakaway party Jerrinding Sanyang and others have been arrested. They have been accused of refusing police arrest and disorderly conduct.
“Sanyang felt that the party executive was not open and cooperative to him which led him to quit APRC. “I resigned on Tuesday, 11th September 2018, and I cannot leave the party without reason. Therefore I’ve reasons why I decided to quit,” the Foroyaa Newspaper reported
“A letter he showed to this medium reads: “I wish to inform the general APRC party militants, supporters through you interim party leader that effective this date above I have resigned from the APRC political party,” the paper added.
Sanyang tried to convene a press conference at his Lamin home on Monday. The place moved in to inform him that he was under arrest, but sources said Sanyang allegedly refused to submit himself to police arrest. He walked on foot to the Banjulnding police station, where he was arrested together with some of his colleagues on arrival there.
The police briefly fired tear gas as soon as the crowd accompanying Sanyang became belligerent.
