A breakthrough has been made in the Ousman Jarju murder case, as the police have arrested two young Gambians, who have confessed to killing the former Internal Audit Department Auditor, Freedom Newspaper can report. Haddim Jeng, an 18-year-old Bakoteh man, and Muhammed Njie, a 16-year-old Bakoteh teenager have confessed to killing the late Ousman Jarju, according to an investigative report issued by the Kotu Criminal Investigation Division. Muhammed Njie said he was given D100 dalasis share from the money that was stolen from the late Auditor.

The 27-year-old Auditor Ousman Jarju, a resident of Jalambang village was recently attacked around the Palma Rima junction and stabbed to death by his assailants. He was with his 23-year-old girlfriend Fatoumataa Danso when the robbery happened.

According to the police, when Haddim Jeng was first arrested, he denied killing Ousman Jarju, but he later confessed.

“With a reenforcement from the Serekunda task force team a criminal hideout in Bakoteh was raided and 12 youths were arrested who were brought to Kotu for interrogations; they were interrogated one by one regarding the alleged murder on Ousman, one Bubacarr Eze of Bakoteh informed us that he saw Hardim and three of his friends going to the beach on the day of the incident. He was later confronted with Hardim through which Hardim confessed to have attacked the  deceased (Ousman Jarju) together with his friends namely Muhammed Funneh (Zill), Spanky and Muhammed Njie. He further informed us that he stabbed the deceased with a knife (recovered) while his friends snatched the bag and they ran in different directions but later met in Bakoteh,” the Kotu CID office investigative report stated.

“He further stated that after separating from his friends, while running he found two unknown women sitting on the sand browsing with their mobile phones, he brought out the knife and threatened to harm them if they didn’t surrender their phones to him, one of the two threw her phone towards him and ran away, he went away with the said phone. He later gave the said phone to one Bintou Badjie for her to charge it for him, it was recovered from her. A search was conducted in his house, the clothes he used on the day of the incident was recovered with blood stains on them. Cautionary and voluntary statements were obtained from him. The victim’s girlfriend (Fatoumata) was invited and she identified both the suspect and the knife,” the report added.

The detectives later arrested one Muhammed Njie, a 16 year old Bakoteh teenager. Njie has confessed to have taken part in the murder Ousman Jarju. Out of the money stolen from the deceased, Njie said he received a share of D100 dalasis from robbery.

“At about 18:00hrs, investigators conducted another raiding in Bakoteh with the enforcement of both TSU and Serekunda task force team however, the second suspect Muhammed Njie of Bakoteh, 16 years old Gambian was arrested, he was interrogated regarding the murder and he immediately confessed, he narrated exactly as the first suspect. He claimed to gotten D100 ( one hundred dalasis) as his share from the money stolen from the victim’s bag. He is also detained to help in the investigations. Efforts to arrest the other two suspects is ongoing, further updates will follow,” said the police.

Reference to the case of Murder with D/ref/no 49/08/09/21, reported at 22:50hrs, Victim.. Ousman Jarju of Jalambang village, 27yrs old, civil servant, works at the National Audit Office, Gambian, Witness:
Fatoumatta Danso (Girlfriend) of Sukuta Sutubakono, 23yrs old Teacher, Gambian.

Hardim Jeng of Bakoteh, 18 years old Gambian was arrested at Palma Rima beach by the TSU personnel in connection to an attempted robbery; he was handed over to us this morning. Hardim was interrogated intensively but he denied having any knowledge or taking part in the alleged murder of Ousman Jarju.
