The officer supervising the investigations of the Old Jeshwang high profile robbery case, in which the Assistant Inspector General of police Landing Bojang has been allegedly implicated, has been transferred to a newly created unit called “the special investigation unit (SIU)” together with three of his subordinate officers handling that case, Freedom Newspaper can report. Chief Superintendent Pa Alieu Jawara, the commander of the Serious Crime Unit has been moved to the newly formed (SIU). Jawara was transferred together with Inspector Jamanti Kebbeh, Inspector Ebrima Camara, and SI Alhagie Karamo Manneh, all of whom used to work at the Serious Crime Unit at the police headquarters in Banjul. This is the unit that was handling the D16million dalasis robbery case. A Lebanese businessman was robbed by armed robbers. The ringleader of that robbery was one Dam Sy, a Senegalese national.
In a First Order Publication, the Inspector General of police Abdoulie Sanyang, announced the newly formed security unit called the special investigation unit (SIU). The unit’s terms and reference, and operational mandate haven’t been spelt out in the First Order out.
It was formed in the wake of the Old Jeshwang robbery case. Detectives who were assigned to probe the matter have been transferred to the new unit with the following officers.
IGP Sanyang wrote: “The under mentioned officers are hereby transfer from their units to Special Investigation Unit (SIU) police HQ with immediate effect.”

It should be noted that the commander of the SIU Pa Alieu Jawara was instated into the force, following the change of government. He was hired on contract. The officers he was reinstated with on contract have since been retired. Jawara is still on the job.
Jawara was living on exile in the United Kingdom together with the police adviser Siaka Sonko. He is Siaka Boy, sources said.
Jawara has been away from the force for many years before his reinstatement, sources added. He was hired to head the Serious Crime Unit, which was headed by Boto Keita. Keita has been moved to the KMC region.
According to sources, Jawara’s contract has either expired or is on the verge of being expired. He is still hanging there at the headquarters, with little or no institutional memory, one insider hinted.
The new SIU reports directly to IGP Abdoulie Sanyang. Demba Sowe, the Assistant Inspector General of police responsible for crime management coordination has been sidelined from the operations of that new unit, sources told us. The same sources said the relationship between Sowe and Sanyang hasn’t been that cordial. That IGP Sanyang has been allegedly undercutting Sowe as crime coordinator.
In another development, Corporal Malang Jammeh has been transferred from the Crab Island police station to the Seaport police station as CIB. Corporal Musa Jammeh has been transferred from the New Yundum police station to the Seaport police station charge office.
Corporal Jaine Joof would remain at the Kairaba police licensing office, the First Order stated.
Also, transferred was ASP Ousman Barry. Barry has been transferred from the Latriya police station to the Foni Bondali PIU base with immediate effect. He was transferred together with CIP Sainabou Badjie of the Sibanor police station. CIB Badjie was moved from Sibanor to the Bondali PIU base.
The police spokesman Lamin Njie could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.
