There is massive fuel shortage in The Gambia, Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Almost all the petrol stations in town are running out of gas.
In coming hours, vehicles would be grounded because of lack of gas. Travelers would also be rendered stranded.
The majority of the gas stations we visited, we were told that there was no gas. Their tanks were completely empty.
It doesn’t look like President Barrow and his team are paying attention to the situation. They are busy working on prolonging his rule.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Gambia National Petroleum Company should explain what is responsible for the gas shortage. Is it because the country is running out of foreign exchange? Or is it because the necessary funds are not available to import gas into this country?
Besides, the shortage of gas, the country is also faced with high cost of living. The price for the bag of rice, which is the nation’s main staple food has increased. The average Gambian consumer cannot afford the current rice price. Prices for basic commodities are also jumping the roof.
The country is also witnessing its worst power cuts. The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) couldn’t supply electricity to its customers. Some communities had reported of not having light for days.
