A current serving Diplomat in Barrow’s administration Bamba Mass says Yankuba Darboe and his co accused persons do not deserve to be detained by the state. Mass is the Protocol and Welfare Officer at The Gambian High Commission in London. “ Yankuba Darboe do not deserve to be detained where he is today. He doesn’t deserve it,” he said. Mass, in a Whatsapp message to his followers,  expressed his opposition to the state’s move to arrest Yanks and co.

Describing Yankuba Darboe as his personal friend, and family member, Mass said he couldn’t eat since arrest and detention of Mr. Darboe. Mass said he has been on hungry strike, following Darboe’s arrest and detention.

“I couldn’t eat since his arrest. We do not cook at my home since his arrest. My son asked me the other day: Dad, are they going to kill Uncle? Yankuba is not only a friend, but also part of my family. Our friendship transcends beyond being friends,” Mass remarked in the local Mandinka dialect.

Opposing the government’s decision to arrest and prosecute his friend, describes Yanks Darboe as a peaceful and law-abiding citizen.

“I am shocked and devastated. I have seen people castigating him. They do not know this man. Yankuba is a peaceful man; a law-abiding citizen. I was saddened when my son in London asked me if Yankuba would be killed. I am hopeful that he would be freed,” he added.

“Yanks calls me Chief. He has the second key of my house. He told me that he was granted permit to organize the protest. He said he was not going to protest without being issued a permit,” said Mass.

Mass claimed that Yanks Darboe had admired his patience and peacefulness.

“Yankuba once told me that he has never seen me angry. He wondered as to how I managed to maintain my composure. I told him that patience and perseverance can help one to manage his feelings. Yankuba represents peace,” he added.

Mass also said Karim Touray and his co accused persons doesn’t deserve to be detained. He wants the detainees to be released. He has called on Gambians to pray for the release of the detainees.
