Another batch of United Democratic Party Ambassadors serving in Gambia’s Foreign Service have been dropped off from President Barrow’s bus, Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. They have been recalled with immediate effect. Topping the list this time around, is Jainaba Bah, Gambia’s Ambassador to Russia. Mrs. Bah received her letter of recall some weeks ago. She was informed by Gambia’s Foreign Ministry that her two years contractual employment agreement with The Gambian government has expired. Banjul has no interest in renewing her contract; hence, which occasioned her recalling.
Mrs. Bah is married to Dr. Sarjo Jallow, a former Jammeh Information Minister and also onetime Gambian Ambassador to the African Union in Ethiopia.
Mrs. Bah is a former member of the defunct organization called Movement for Justice in Africa (MOJA). She joined the United Democratic Party few years before the fall of dictator Jammeh.
It has been reported that she was among the UDP supporters and party officials who were handpicked by their party Leader Ousainou Darboe to serve in the Foreign Service, following consultations with President Adama Barrow.
Also recalled from his diplomatic post, was Dr. Momodou Lamin Sedat Jobe, Gambia’s Ambassador to France. Like Jainaba Bah, Dr. Jobe too was informed through a letter from the Foreign Ministry that his contract had expired. Jobe’s contract will not be renewed, according to sources familiar with the story.
Dr. Jobe was said to have been brought to the government by his longtime friend and brother Ousainou Darboe, Gambia’s recently sacked Vice President. Jobe, who had served as Gambia’s Foreign Minister, during dictator Jammeh’s rule, is a native of Bansang, in the Central River Region of The Gambia. His friend lawyer Darboe, hailed from Doobo, a village, which is located outside Bansang.
Ebrima Manneh, a longtime UDP member and official, was also recalled from his post in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he served as Gambian Ambassador. Manneh, who was appointed in July of 2018 to replace the late Femi Peters, was informed by the Foreign Ministry that his contract with The Gambian government had expired.
But sources said Manneh, had since written to The Gambian government informing them that his contract was due to expire in July of 2020 and not May 15th 2019.
The Foreign Ministry hasn’t responded to Manneh’s letter yet, sources told this medium.
Mr. Manneh was first shortlisted to serve as Gambia’s Ambassador to the United States, but for some unknown reasons, his “AGREEMA” was not granted by Washington. He was later appointed Ambassador to replace the late Femi Peters. Peters died in Sierra Leone, while serving his country in the mano-river nation.
