The Gambian police have charged fifteen protesters, who earlier today gathered around the Senegambia hotel area, calling on President Adama Barrow to respect the three year transition period he agreed with his coalition partners, FREEDOM NEWSPAPER CAN REPPORT. Police spokesman ASP Lamin Njie tells Freedom Newspaper that “ the protesters have been charged with Prohibition of conduct conducive to the breach of the peace contrary to section 9 of the public order act, laws of the Gambia. They are currently granted bail and will be arraign before the court soon.”
Njie says the protesters called themselves as “Operation 3 years jotna.” He added that they never applied for a permit from the Police; yet today they assembled at Senegambia for a demonstration.
“The Police Tourists Security Unit TSU personnel tried to disperse them peacefully but they never adhered to that. They were eventually arrested and taken to Kairaba Police Station and their statements taken. They are 15 in number, 8 females and 7 males,” the police spokesman added.
