A magistrate’s court in Kanifing, has just dismissed the witness tampering case against Fatou Jahumpa Ceesay, Freedom Newspaper can reveal. No conviction was secured as far as the matter in question was concerned.
This followed, a request made by the prosecution to withdraw the charges against Ms. Ceesay and her co accused person Yankuba Touray. The prosecution intends to refer their case to the High Court.
Defense Counsels representing the accused persons never objected to the prosecution’s request. Lawyer Lamin Camara represented Yankuba Touray, while lawyer A Sisoho represented Fatou Jahumpa Ceesay.
Meanwhile, the police have decided to rearrest Fatou Jahumpa Ceesay. She is currently detained at the Kairaba police station. No reason was given for her second arrest.
Ms. Ceesay is currently working on securing her bail.
Fatou Jahumpa Ceesay was charged with tampering with Alhagie Kanyi, one of the TRC witnesses. Kanyi told the commission that Ms. Ceesay was trying to convince him not to show up at the commission to give evidence. He added that Ms. Ceesay phoned him on behalf of Yankuba Touray, who was also arrested on witness tampering related charges.
Kanyi has admitted taking part in the murder of former Finance Minister Ousman Koro Ceesay. He adduced in evidence that Ceesay was killed at the home of Yankuba Touray, the former Junta Localo Government Minister.
